What does VRM mean?
The VRM is the ‘vehicle registration mark’ otherwise known as the registration number or the number plate.
What is the VIN?
VIN stands for ‘vehicle identification number’ otherwise known as vin number or chassis number. This can be found in the following locations; Under the bonnet, often on a steel plate at the front of the car near the bonnet catch. Stamped into the body near the wiper arms, sometimes covered with a plastic view window. On the inner wing at the top of the suspension leg. This must be cross checked with the number on the V5.
Is the service only relevant to cars?
No you can check motorbikes, scooters, motor homes, tractors etc.
What is a V5?
A V5 is the ‘log book’ or vehicle registration document. Check the sellers details match those on the V5. If you’re not happy walk away.
How do I activate the guarantee?
To activate the indemnity insurance you must enter the VIN number. You can log back in at a later date after you’ve purchased an AA car data check but this must be done prior to purchasing the vehicle.
Is my online payment safe?
Yes, you will be taken to a secure AA website for payment. Always look for the padlock symbol at the bottom of your page when paying online.
What if I buy from a dealer?
The car check can reveal more information than the dealer may want to volunteer. Dealers aren’t forced to declare any problems unless you specifically ask. For peace of mind check it yourself and get the real history!
