AA Car Data Check customer testimonials
JUNE 2006
Mrs A of Brentwood bought a data check online when her husband was buying a Ford Galaxy. When a query arose regarding a finance agreement she contacted the Customer Services Team who investigated with the finance company on her behalf. Mrs A was so impressed with the service that she sent the following email:
'I have just used your vehicle data check. The check came back with two problems that I needed help to sort out. I rang your office and spoke to Chris, who swiftly told me what was wrong and contacted the finance company to clear the outstanding finance query on the car. Please give him a big thanks from us, he was a great help!

Mr S of Lancashire had a sorry tale to tell when he contacted AA Car Data Check before buying his new car. He had previously bought a van privately, paying £6,000 in cash. He thought he had done everything correctly after he saw an advert in a leading car sales publication. He visited the seller’s address, obtained a V5, a service book and one key. Having submitted the V5 to the DVLA he received a visit from the Police as the document was not genuine.
With hindsight Mr S believes he could have been a more prudent purchaser. He should not have agreed to pay in cash and he should not have accepted a vehicle with only one key, as these are common traits in cloned vehicles. Obtaining a data check would not necessarily have prevented him from buying the clone, but being less trusting of a stranger would have helped. Service books stored in glove compartments make it very easy for thieves to pose as a legitimate owner, so Mr S will not be leaving one in his car in future. He does not know if any details in a data check would have prevented him from wasting his hard earned money, but he will certainly be double checking everything very carefully in future dealings.
